Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I am interested in this course because it aligns with my applied and experiential learning philosophies. Integrating social action into Urban Sociology or courses that examine types of victimization (e.g., Victimology) helps sociologists analyze how and why people act the way they do within environments, which is crucial for studying social change and community organizing.
Course Description:
The Urban Sociology course examines the history of urbanization and urban life, as well as the development of urban communities. More importantly, the course explores the utilization and development of space and the intersection of race, starting with Baltimore City, along with contemporary issues of urbanization.
