Democratic Thought and Action in Higher Education

Motivation to Teach Social Action:

I teach a range of classes that are critical inquiry (feminist and queer theory, political thought, etc.) and I do a lot of EL in our department, both in my classroom and as the experiential learning coordinator. This is a tender time on our campus, and our students are looking for safe, impactful ways to express themselves and to connect fundamental concepts around freedom, responsibility and collective action to what is going on in the world around them.

Course Description:

This course provides a survey of leading feminist political theory ideas from historic to contemporary feminist works, including feminist epistemologies, ontologies and ideas about politics, power, equality, governance, citizenship, agency, and freedom.
