Motivation to Teach Social Action:

In the courses we teach within the field of sustainability science, we learn about theories that describe what is "change", especially drawing from the scholarship on complex adaptive systems and social-ecological resilience. However, we only vaguely gesture towards how change can be effectuated, and the focus is never really on activism.

Course Description:

Foundations of sustainability theory. History and evolution of interdisciplinary thought about sustainability. Principles of systems thinking as applied to complex problems. Application of theory in community systems
