Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I'd like to implement this program in my class, honestly during the spring semester. In the spring, I am teaching a class called "writing for environmental change" and I think it would be an excellent fit for a social action project.
Course Description:
How do texts shape the ways people understand their role in environmental issues? This course explores the relationship between writing, persuasion, and environmental change. Students will examine how corporations, activists, scientists, policymakers, and community organizations communicate about sustainability and environmental concerns. Through the analysis and production of diverse forms of writing, students will investigate topics such as environmental advocacy, science communication, greenwashing, public engagement, and the rhetoric of sustainability. The course emphasizes critical thinking, rhetorical analysis, research, and writing as tools for understanding and responding to contemporary environmental challenges.
