Course Description:

What is this class about? • What is nonviolence? • How does it transform conflicts? • How does it work in different contexts? • What strategy and tactics work best? • How is that changing? • Can anyone do nonviolence in the same way? • How do sexism, racism, and other systems of oppression affect how it works and for who?

What will I be able to do by the end of the semester? • Answer the questions above. • Discuss if, when, and how nonviolent action could transform a conflict. • Decide what forms of nonviolence you want to be involved in, when, and how. • Analyze the strategy and tactics of groups engaging in nonviolence. • Understand systems of structural inequality and your relationship to them in new ways. • Present your experience doing several forms of primary research about nonviolence
