Teaching Social Action Syllabus Review - Winter ‘26

image

Please join us on Thursday, January 8, from 3-4:30 pm EST, to discuss the progress of your syllabus development. This meeting is for faculty and staff who have completed an Institute and are preparing a syllabus for your upcoming social action class or workshop.

During the syllabi review, we will break into discipline-based groups to share draft syllabi with colleagues and discuss:

  1. How you've structured the "reflective parts" of social action around the “active parts” (i.e., Issue Development, Building Power, and Campaign Launch).
  2. Which social action books, readings, and assignments you plan to use.
  3. Which discipline-specific readings will you incorporate.

We will then gather as a whole group to discuss general questions about teaching social action, such as:

  1. Whether student campaigns will focus on a specific issue or be open-ended for students to choose.
  2. What the minimum size requirements will be for student campaigns
  3. Whether campaigns should occur on campus, off campus, or both.
  4. How often will students have to meet in their groups to discuss their campaigns.

In addition, we will provide you with a Mural Board template for your course to help you monitor student campaign development in real time.
